Georgetta Cornita is university professor at the Universitatea de Nord”, Baia Mare, where she holds a chair in semiotics and media languages. In addition, she is the dean of the Faculty of Philology and Ethnology. Her key scientific interests are at the present communication & media theory, cultural studies, semiotics and linguistics. Her most recent publications are: Dialogul între stilistica si stiinta comunicarii, (Umbria 2001), Paradigme ale expresivitatii in lirica populara nerituala din Maramures, (Umbria, 1997), Capcanele limbajului. Elemente de metalimbaj, (Studii si articole, vol. VIII al Societătii de Stiinte Filologice, 2000), Limbajul conversational sub influenta noilor mijloace comunicationale, (Conferinta Internationala in domeniul comunicarii institutionale si traductologiei, 4-5 octombrie, 2001, Timisoara, România, (together with Oana Mitrea): Configuration of the Mental Spaces in Mobile Telephony, online publication of the conference Transforming Spaces hold in Darmstadt, March, 2002. Next to the research activity in communication and media, she has been active in the social and education research field. Before her academic employment, she worked as an educational inspector at the Romanian Ministry of Education, being in charge of the continuing education programs for the entire staff from the Maramures County. Georgetta Cornita currently participates in the CALISRO program, which addresses the compatibilization of the Romanian educational system with the other European systems, as a condition of the European integration.
