Stathis Arapostathis was born in Larissa on 26 July 1972. He studied physics (BSc) in the Department of Physics in the University of Thessaloniki. Subsequently he pursued postgraduate studies (MA) in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science in the University of Athens. After his master he did his D.Phil in the History of Technology in the University of Oxford where he was supervised by Prof. Robert Fox. The title of his thesis is ‘Consulting Engineers in the British Electric Light and Power Industry, c.1880-1914’. He worked in research projects in the domain of the history of natural sciences and scientific instruments in the National Research Foundation, Athens and in the University of Athens. He participated in various international conferences in the history of technology and science. His most resent publications are relevant to the history of electrical engineering, the history of urban electrification in Britain the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, as well as the relations of science and technology. His D.Phil thesis was financially sponsored by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Recently he has been awarded the International Scholars Fellowship for 2007-2009 by the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT). His research interests include the history and sociology of electrical engineering, the sociology of technological systems and networks, and the study of the social implications of technological change.
