Eogan 2026, Theme: Renewable energies and archival sustainability
We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the 2026 Conference of Eogan, the Network of energy archives (www.eogan.org). EOGAN provides a network for people working to preserve and promote the use of energy- related records across Europe, including:
- archivists, records managers and records creators in the industry
- energy companies wishing to develop business archives
- archives, museums and organisations with an interest in energy history
- universities and academics working on energy-related topics
The annual EOGAN conference is a meeting place for people to share ideas and develop valuable international links across the energy research and archives sectors.

The conference will take place on 15-16 June 2026, in blended mode, and it will be hosted by PPC Historical Archives in Athens, Greece.
PPC Historical Archives collect, organize and preserve the historical records of the Public Power Corporation, which was established in 1950, marking the beginning of Greece’s electrification period. Their rich collections reflect PPC's role in the economic, technological and social development of the country. Furthermore, PPC Historical Archives make their invaluable resources accessible for research, providing insights into industrialization and industrial heritage, rural modernization, the exploitation of domestic natural resources, labour history and the history of technology in Greece. PPC is the leading Greek electric utility, with activities in electricity generation, distribution network operation and supply of electricity to end consumers, servicing c. 5.6 million customers. Moreover, the PPC Group holds the largest installed renewable energy portfolio in Greece, with clean energy projects across various technologies - including solar farms, wind parks, hydroelectric plants, and a hybrid power station - as well as several smaller projects throughout the country, both on the mainland and the islands. At the same time, the Group is innovating in Greece and across the Balkans and Southeastern Europe, actively developing projects in all forms of renewable energy - including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and biomass/biogas, as well as battery energy storage systems.
The theme for the 2026 Conference is ‘Renewable Energies and Archival Sustainability’: as the world moves beyond the now “traditional” hydrocarbon sources and as renewables become more and more established, how do archives trace and narrate these changes? On the other side, as more and more electricity is needed for documental preservation in the digital era, how do archives face the (new) challenges of sustainability?
We welcome contributions that tackle the interlinked topics of renewables and sustainability from any discipline, as long as the methodology involves the usage of archival material (not limited to paper documentation but open to all type of sources). Topics can include, without being limited to:
Research
- History of renewable energies
- History of electrification
- Evolution of the concept of sustainability in history, and geopolitical, social, economic effects
- The role of electricity production in environmental history
- History of environmental movements and of “clean” energies
- Past and present patterns of sustainability in energy production
- Methodologies for the analysis of energy history
Sources/Methodologies
- Presentation of historical archives from renewable energy companies
- How archives can be (environmentally) sustainable in the digital age
- Energy consumption in archives
- Relations between energy archivists/records managers, and political/economic actors
- Presentation of historical archives and collections on renewable energy, energy transitions, environmental movements, electricity
- Other general archival resources that are useful for energy sector archives
We invite you to submit papers on the topics mentioned above, or any other aspect of our conference theme – we welcome a wide range of perspectives. Please submit your paper (max 10000 words excluding notes and bibliography) or an abstract (max 300 words) with a working title, to eogan.network@gmail.com by the 19 April 2026, along with a short biography including your name, email address and affiliation. Please also indicate if you plan to be present in person, or online.
