The Catharina Högbom and Michael Cocozza Foundation for Research and Cultural Purposes in the Municipality of Linköping is offering a scholarship in Technology and Social Change (Tema T) with a focus on historical research. The scholarship recipient will be affiliated with one of the research environments at Tema T, Department of Thematic Studies, Linköping University. The scholarship is intended for early career researchers. To be eligible, applicants must have been awarded their doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline. If there are special circumstances, the doctoral degree may have been awarded earlier. Such circumstances may include leave due to illness, parental leave, elected office in a trade union, service in the Swedish total defence system or other similar circumstances.
The scholarship provides funding for three years of full-time research. The total scholarship amount is SEK 1,965,000 and is intended to cover living expenses and certain minor costs, such as conference travel, personal insurance (life, accident and health insurance) and pension contributions.
Conditions: In addition to having been awarded a doctoral degree no more than five years before the application deadline, the scholarship recipient must conduct their research within the Tema T research environment at Linköping University, Campus Valla, without being employed by the university. The scholarship recipient must also reside in the Municipality of Linköping during the scholarship period. The recipient is expected to communicate their own or others’ work in the field to the general public at least twice a year during each of the three scholarship years, for example through articles, book reviews, interviews or lectures, or in other ways through national or local analogue or digital media. The foundation also wishes research findings to be made accessible in Swedish to the general public in Sweden.
It is considered a particular merit if the applicant can also establish links with research environments in one or more of the other thematic units at the department. Your application must include a research plan of no more than five pages, including references, a brief statement outlining your reasons for applying for the scholarship, a curriculum vitae and list of publications, as well as contact details for two referees.
The application must be submitted as a PDF attachment by email to prefekt@tema.liu.se no later than Sunday 1 November 2026.
The decision to appoint the scholarship recipient will be made by the Catharina Högbom and Michael Cocozza Foundation for Research and Cultural Purposes in the Municipality of Linköping in spring 2027. The scholarship period will begin no earlier than August 2027.
