Short biography

Tanja Riekkinen is a doctoral researcher in the field of History with a research focus on the history of oil, energy, and energy transitions. She is also a university teacher and course director in the Scandinavian Studies Programme at the University of Oulu.

Riekkinen’s BA and MA theses were graded with Pass with Distinction and won the best thesis of the academic year prize awarded by the department of History at the University of Oulu. Previously, she was a project researcher in a project assigned by the University of Oulu Academics.

She has experience in planning, delivering and evaluating basic courses in the fields of environmental humanities and environmental history as well as in co-developing and co-directing a multidisciplinary basic course.

Riekkinen has published two peer-reviewed scientific articles and a book intended for professional communities. She serves in several national and international boards and committees aiming to develop the academia.
